Finding my inner homemaker

So I've been a full-time software engineer for over 25 years, been married for 27 years, and raised two sons (youngest is a senior in high school.)  It's no wonder I haven't had time to reconnect with my inner homemaker in a while!

As a little girl, I played dolls and always dreamed I would be a full-time homemaker, just like my mom.  I learned to cook in her kitchen.  I learned to sew on her machine.  I took Home-Ec in school.  My mom died (when I was 12), and I inheritted her sewing machine.  I dabbled with it a little when my first son was born, but I really just didn't have time.  Well, with my next half-empty now, I recently dusted off my mom's sewing machine and had it serviced.

I found a sewing project on Pintrest that I wanted to try (a ruffled curtain.)  I bought the materials and, cut the pieces.  With the scrap pieces, I reconnected with the sewing machine.  I even experimented with different "feet"--a hemmer and a ruffler.  I was successful with the hemmer during scrap practice, but when it came time to start hemming the real pieces, I just couldn't get it right.  So I just hemmed them the "old fashioned" way.  But the ruffler--wow!  Love it!

While I was sewing and experimenting with the different attachments, I found myself wondering what type of projects my mom created and how often she used the attachments.  I remember her sewing awesome clothes for me--I just dont' remember her using all of the fancy attachments.

And I had forgotten how much I enjoy sewing.  I'll post a picture of the finished project (when I get it finished!  I ran out of thread!!!)  And I've got tons of ideas on other projects that I want to tackle (like a t-shirt memory quilt for each of my boys, and myself!)

Getting Started

Ok so against the advice of a good friend, I joined Pinterest.  She warned me that it would eat up any spare time that I have.  I'm afraid she's right.  There is SO much that I want to do now!  I'm actually going to start with a project that I have come up with myself.  I hope to accomplish it this weekend and post about it.  Stay tuned!
